Brick Border and River Rock Bed That Actually Changes the Whole Front Yard

Sometimes all a yard needs is a little structure. No massive overhaul, no ripping everything out - just a clean border and the right ground cover to pull it all together. That's exactly what we were working with here.

We installed a curved brick border that wraps around the existing foundation plantings and ties together the front and side of the house. The brick gives the bed a defined edge - something that separates a polished yard from one that just looks overgrown or undefined. That edge does a lot of heavy lifting visually.

Inside the border, we filled the main front bed with river rock. It's a low-maintenance option that holds up well and keeps things looking neat without needing constant upkeep. No mulch breaking down and washing out every season. The rock stays put, drains well, and looks clean year after year. Along the side of the house, we laid dark mulch to complement the existing shrubs and keep weeds suppressed through the growing season.

What we ended up with is a yard that looks intentional. The shrubs and decorative pieces that were already there - they actually stand out now because the bed itself has structure. That's the thing about good edging and ground cover work - it doesn't just make the bed look better, it makes everything in it look better too.

Small projects like this are easy to put off, but the difference they make is real. A defined bed with the right materials changes how the whole front of a house reads from the street.
