Low spots in a backyard are more than an eyesore. They hold water, kill grass, and create muddy messes every time it rains. That's exactly what we were dealing with here - a backyard with problem areas that needed to be raised and regraded before anything else could happen. We addressed the drainage issues first, bringing in fill and grading the ground so water moves away from the house the way it should.
Once the grading work was done, we had a clean slate to work with. The whole back area got reworked - soil leveled out, the ground around the pool surround tidied up, and the yard reshaped to flow properly. It's the kind of work that doesn't always get the attention it deserves, but it's what everything else is built on. Get the grade wrong and you're just putting a band-aid on a bigger problem.
From there, we installed a new walkway along the side and around the back of the house. The path curves naturally with the layout of the yard, connecting the side of the home to the back deck area in a way that actually makes sense. Clean paver installation, properly set, with a defined planting bed edge running alongside it. Simple and functional - built to hold up, not just look good on day one.
The finished result is a backyard that works. Water goes where it's supposed to go. There's a real path to walk on. The pool area sits clean with its stone surround and block edging intact. What was a rough, uneven space is now a solid foundation for whatever comes next - whether that's sod, plantings, or just enjoying the yard without sinking into the soft spots.
This is the kind of work we do a lot of - grading and leveling combined with hardscape installation that solves real problems. No fluff, no shortcuts. Just a yard that functions the way it should and looks a whole lot better in the process.
